Decluttering

Decluttering

All of us have 'clutter' at home, some more than others.
Organised For Life can help you sort through the clutter, helping you to decide what to keep and what can go.
We'll also help you organise storage solutions to keep your home neat and tidy in future.
At the end of the experience you will wonder how you ever managed to survive before.
Organised For Life also offer decluttering services following life changes such as a divorce or bereavement where it can be particularly hard to sort through the personal belongings of a loved one.

Process

A session is between two and eight hours, and at the pace that is the most comfortable for you. We'll take regular breaks during a session for a coffee and at lunchtime.

Stage 1 - Consultation and planning

The first thing we do is to identify the place or places in your home or office that causes you and your family the most frustration. We can then briefly sit down together and discuss what you hope to achieve, for example, setting up a filing system for your paperwork, sorting the clothes in your wardrobe. We can then work out a plan, decide on the best place to start and estimate how long it will take.

Stage 2 - Decluttering session

The majority of the time decluttering is spent working together hands-on, making decisions as we sort through the jumble of treasure and junk deciding what stays and what to discard.

This phase of the process can take an entire session, more than one session, or only part of the session, depending on the area being decluttered and how much clutter there is to sort through.

We encourage recycling, donating items to charity shops, friends and family or you selling unwanted items at car boot sales, through local newspapers, or on the internet.

Stage 3 - Reorganising the things you want to keep

Once we've weeded out the clutter it's time to organise what's left and look at effective storage solutions. Often people find that they do not require any further storage, just to use the storage they have in a different way. Should you need to buy new storage solutions, we can accompany you on a shopping trip to help choose the best storage for your home or office.

Stage 4 - Staying clutter free

Throughout our work together we will advise you on ways to keep clutter down in the long-term. At the end of each session we look at what's been achieved so far and the best way to continue tackling the clutter. Clients often like us to work together on a regular basis or have follow up visits to help keep them motivated and focused in order to win the battle against clutter over the long term.

Please note:

Organised For Life will not remove unwanted items from your home, lift heavy objects, climb ladders, or go into unconverted loft spaces.
